The use of agency drivers is inevitable in today’s economic environment. Whilst they pose a greater risk to your company than full-time, known employees, there are procedures you can put in place to mitigate these risks.
- Choose a reputable agency that complies with the Recruitment and Employment Confederation’s agency driver code of conduct.
- Use our Agency Driver Guide to screen potential agencies.
- Carry out the same checks on agency staff eg licence checks, knowledge of maintenance checks, as you would with permanent staff.
- Communicate your procedures clearly when new drivers start working for you.
- Analyse crash data.
